A pop-up exhibition bringing the creative work of SILCARE Mess Hall participants into Our Living Room.
Art, presence and community gathered in one room.
What is Mess Hall?
A place to make something. And take part in something.
Mess Hall is a recurring creative workshop within SILCARE.
Participants come together around a craft chosen in advance, with each activity adapted to different abilities, rhythms and interests.
The aim is not to produce identical objects.
It is to create the conditions for people to make, choose, experiment, contribute and leave with something that is genuinely theirs.
Same activity. Different hands. Different outcomes.
FROM TABLE TO THE ROOM
Some things are worth putting on the walls.
Most Mess Hall pieces are made to be used, kept, gifted or taken home.
From time to time, some of that work comes together differently.
Our Living Room creates a temporary exhibition around the pieces, giving participants the opportunity to see their work presented, shared and looked at by others.
Not because it needs to become “art”.
Because making something deserves to be seen.
More than an exhibition
The room may hold more than objects.
Depending on the people involved, Mess Hall may also make room for other contributions.
A poem.
A piece of music.
A few words.
Something someone would like to share.
Nothing is compulsory. The event grows from the interests, talents and comfort of the people taking part.
The exhibition is the starting point. What happens around it can change.
The collaboration
Our Living Room × SILCARE
Mess Hall brings together two different kinds of work.
SILCARE creates and supports the ongoing Mess Hall workshops with participants.
Our Living Room helps bring the work into a public space: shaping the exhibition, installation and the experience around it.
Together, the aim is simple:
to create a moment where making, participation and community can be shared beyond the workshop table.
